Clerical Support Volunteer
   
  Volunteers provide essential support to many departments within the hospital.  Our clerical support volunteers offer many services, such as filing, answering phones, computer, data entry as well as special projects. 
 
Critical Care Liaison Desk Volunteer
 

 

 

The Critical Care Unit Receptionist volunteer is important in the communication between patient's families and the physicians. This volunteer is stationed at the Critical Care waiting room and maintains a log of CCU patients for use in keeping the family members of the patient updated as well as providing coffee service to those waiting.  The Liaison also provides volunteer assistance to all CCU department staff.

   
Emergency Department Patient Satisfaction Volunteer
   
 

The Emergency Department volunteer is responsible for making phone calls to recent patients and completing a short satisfaction survey regarding their Emergency room experience.  This volunteer is providing a service both to the hospital and the public to ensure that the department is providing the best possible care and service to its patients. 

Must be 18 and older and available during the day.
   
Emergency Department Volunteer
   
 

The Emergency Department deals with a diverse group of patients and situations in a fast-paced, demanding environment. Volunteers’ provide assistance to the department staff by performing a multitude of duties. This area provides excellent exposure to the healthcare profession by allowing the volunteer a close-up perspective of the knowledge and skills used everyday in an Emergency department.  Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.

   
Gift Shop Volunteer
   
  The Gift Shop volunteer contributes to the success of both hospital gift shops by providing high levels of customer service to the public and the hospital staff within the hospital.  Duties include cashiering and providing assistance to customers as they shop.  Gift shop volunteers receive a 15% discount on items purchased in our shops. College and Jr. Volunteers 16 and older are welcome to apply. Volunteers must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
   
Library/Magazine Sorting and Delivery Volunteer
   
  The magazine volunteer collects, sorts and distributes magazines throughout the hospital to waiting areas as well as deliver to patients if requested.  Requires a lot of walking.
   
Mail Delivery/Processing Volunteer
   
  The Mail delivery/processing volunteer plays a very important role in the distribution of all mail for Valley Hospital.  This includes picking up and delivering all interoffice mail coming from different Empire Health Services facilities, as well as picking up any outgoing mail to be processed through the mail machine.  This detail-oriented position ensures that all mail coming in and leaving the Valley hospital arrives at its' intended destination Volunteers must be able to walk for extended periods without assistance, stand for periods of time and push a mail cart.
   
Main Lobby Information Desk Volunteer
   
  Volunteers placed at the Main Hospital lobby information desk provide customer service support to patients, visitors, family members and hospital staff.  Duties may include escorting, flower/mail delivery to patients and staff, running errands within the facility, including transporting of discharged patients, delivering information to Medical Records, and a variety of other duties.  This position allows the volunteer to become very familiar with many areas of the hospital, as well as be able to communicate with both staff and patients. Volunteers must be able to walk without assistance.
   
Medical Records Volunteer
   
  The Medical Records volunteer assists the department staff in the completion of many clerical duties, including preparing mailings for physicians and patients, filing of patient documents, copying various documents using a copier, as well as other duties the staff may need help with.  The volunteer in this department provides invaluable service to the Medical Records staff, ensuring that tasks are done in an efficient and timely manner. 
   
Medical/Surgical Unit Volunteer
   
  The Medical/Surgical volunteer is stationed at the Nurse’s station on either the Medical or Surgical side of the 3rd floor.  This volunteer is responsible for answering phone calls, greeting people and giving directions, stocking and maintaining office supplies, filing and working with patient charts, and being available to assist the nursing staff with various duties as needed.  Must be available early evening shift 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
   
Osteoporosis/Blood Pressure Screening Volunteer
   
  The Osteoporosis/Blood Pressure Screening volunteer provides Osteoporosis Bone Density ultrasound heel tests and Blood Pressure readings to the public free of charge.  Volunteers are trained how to operate the Osteoporosis and Blood Pressure screening machines. Volunteers must be able to bend at the waist repeatedly.
   
Outpatient Floater Volunteer
   
 

The Outpatient Lobby Floaters primary role is to serve as communicator between patients/families and hospital staff.   Floater duties include assisting people coming in to the Outpatient Lobby, checking patients in to the Admitting office, running errands throughout the hospital, answering phones, escorting patients to different areas, and assisting the Outpatient Lobby staff with various duties.  This position is key to keeping the process of patient admission and assistance running smoothly.  

Volunteers must be able to walk without assistance and push a wheelchair and/or cart.
   
Pharmacy Volunteer
   
 

The Pharmacy volunteer works in a fast-paced environment within the hospital Inpatient Pharmacy.  The duties for this volunteer position include making rounds to all patient care floors to deliver medications as well as pick up any new prescriptions to be filled.  In between rounds, the Pharmacy volunteer works alongside the staff and helps with clerical tasks, as well as a variety of other duties as assigned by the Pharmacy staff.       

Volunteers must be able to walk without assistance.
   
Photo Historian Volunteer
   
  The Photo Historian volunteer ensures proper documentation and display of Auxiliary special events.  The Historian takes pictures at events to be placed in scrapbooks for enjoyment by the rest of the members.  Examples include the annual Auxiliary Luncheons, 80th birthday parties, etc.  This position allows for flexibility in schedule as well as creativity.
   
Radiology Volunteer
   
  The Radiology volunteer provides assistance to the radiology department staff. This volunteer position is specific to college students pursuing a career in Radiology. This experience allows college students opportunities to observe all aspects of the radiology department including the patients.  Other duties are assigned as determined by the department mentor.
   
Scholarship Committee Volunteer
   
  The Scholarship volunteer is a member of the Scholarship committee.  Every year, the Valley Hospital Auxiliary awards 5 scholarships to high school seniors wishing to pursue a career in the medical field.  The duties for this volunteer position include sending out applications to area high schools to ensure that all high school seniors are welcome to apply, reviewing all applications and selecting the finalists, proper distribution of the monies, and recognizing the awardees at the Spring Luncheon.   
   
Special Events Volunteer
   
  The Special Events volunteer is a member of the Special Events Committee.  In conjunction with all other committee chairpersons, this position is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all Auxiliary Special Events, including the annual Awards Luncheons, birthday parties and other special occasions.  The committee contributes to the setup of the event, as well details such as food, invitations, etc.  This position allows for flexibility and creativity in planning special events for all members to enjoy.  
   
Surgery Assessment Clinic Volunteer
   
  The Surgical Assessment Clinic (SAC) Desk volunteer provides assistance to the staff, patients, families, and visitors coming into the Surgery Center.    Duties include greeting patients and making sure they are checked in appropriately, preparing and maintaining current surgery and inpatient census lists, directing patients and families to different areas according to their needs, and providing staff with updates and general information on surgery patients.  This volunteer position is an important communication link between patients and staff.
   
Surgery Liaison Desk Volunteer
   
  The Surgery Liaison desk volunteer acts as a “link” between the surgical patient, relatives and doctors.  The volunteer serves as a liaison between the physicians and families of the patient, providing vital communication between each group.  The volunteer notifies the families of any updates, as well as the progress of the procedure. The volunteer also provides services such as directions to other areas of the hospital and preparing coffee for the families in the waiting room.      
   
Valley Outpatient Surgery Center Volunteer
   
 

The Valley Outpatient Surgery Center is located adjacent to Valley Hospital. The volunteer in this area provides assistance to the VOSC staff by performing various clerical duties including filing, copying of patient charts and files, running patient schedules, answering incoming phones and greeting patients at the front desk.  This volunteer is responsible for high accuracy and confidentiality due to the nature of their duties.
