Midwife Services

Many people associate midwives only with childbirth in which they provide care before, during and after normal deliveries.  The CNMs are present throughout the entire labor and are experts at childbirth as well as detecting any problems that may arise.  Midwives work closely with obstetricians and in the event of complications, an obstetrician would step in to help if needed.

But nurse midwives have a role much broader than childbirth.  They provide healthcare for women throughout their lives. Here are some of our services:

  • Free pregnancy testing
  • Contraceptive care
  • Preconception counseling
  • Family Planning
  • Menopausal management
  • Management of common health illness
  • Infection screening and treatment of our clients and their partners
  • Well woman and annual gynecological examinations
  • Prenatal, labor, delivery and postpartum care
  • Presence throughout labor
  • Breastfeeding education
  • Breast and Cervical Program

Our care is family-focused and individualized, preventive, satisfying and safe. We advocate for nonintervention and the enhancement of the normal.  We take the time to listen, because you know what’s best for you.

Meet our staff

  • Catherine Shields—Catherine feels she has the perfect job.  She has education beyond a Master’s in nursing and followed her vision to receive training as a certified nurse mid-wife.  After the birth of her first child, she knew she wanted to help every woman to have a wonderful experience throughout pregnancy and birth.  Catherine says she feels “blessed” to be a part of this process.  Catherine also provides philosophical direction for the clinic and is a liaison between the Clinic and the professional community.
  • Kathleen Bentley—Katherine sought her CNM because of her desire to have more involvement with her patients.  As a high-risk perinatal educator, she has seen the value of education and prenatal care and firmly believes that women need to be partners in their healthcare.  Kathleen enjoys the excitement of delivering a baby, but also knowing that extra attention and early education helps women have healthier pregnancies and healthier babies.   She listens closely to her patients and helps them take better care of themselves.
  • Lauren Armstrong—Lauren believes in individualized, family-centered care.  She sees her practice as one of support and facilitation so that each of the families she encounters may find the births of their babies to be the safest and most joyous of experiences.  Lauren feels privileged and honored to be a part of such a wondrous part of the lives of women and families.
